Meals of Hope

Meals of Hope

The Mission of Meals of Hope is “To inspire and empower communities to come together to end hunger.” We believe it is our job to feed people. Meals of Hope began as a food packing organization, and we are the only food packing organization with a priority on keeping the food packed within the United States. We developed five meals specifically designed for the American palate with added vitamins, minerals, and proteins to supplement an unbalanced diet. Most of our packed meals are donated to the Feeding America Food Bank Network.

Benefits to the Target Audience

The “host” organization helps support the Meals of Hope Mission and also experiences these benefits.

Involvement: Give your members, students, congregation, or employees a way to get involved.
Community Relations: Position your organization as an advocate for the hungry within your community.
Promote Your Social Responsibility: Raise your organization’s socially responsible profile with the local and regional media by bringing your event to their attention.
Teaching Moments: Teach younger volunteers a life lesson they’ll never forget.
Leadership Development: Hosting an event creates a memorable leadership development program for businesses. It can also be a team-building exercise.
Team Building: When employees or groups spend time together, they will inevitably get to know each other better and develop better working relationships. At a packing event with Meals of Hope, team building naturally occurs, especially since everyone is aligned by a common, worthwhile goal- to eliminate hunger by packing as many meals as possible. Why not divert corporate budgets for generic “Team Building” events, and use the money to pack Meals of Hope? Everyone wins!

The Market
For decades, individuals and organizations have banded together to volunteer or raise money for causes important to them. Hunger continues to be a top-of-mind issue both in the U.S. and worldwide and is thought to be a predictable, preventable, and treatable illness. Meals of Hope believes that stamping out hunger in the U.S. is a worthy cause with socially redeeming value.

In the U.S. COVID-19 brought hunger and food insecurity issues into our living rooms. Nightly news reports featured long lines of people who had heretofore been donors and volunteers to food banks, who were now waiting in line to receive food themselves. In 2020, one in 25 (3.9 percent) of households in the U.S. experienced very low food security, a more severe form of food insecurity, where households report regularly skipping meals or reducing intake because they could not afford more food.

About 23.5 million people live in food deserts (geographical areas that lack a sufficient supply of fresh vegetables, fruits, and healthful, affordable whole foods). Nearly half of them are also low-income. Approximately 2.3 million people (2.2% of all US households) live in low-income, rural areas that are more than 10 miles from a supermarket.

Meals of Hope considered these issues when developing the meals. We developed five meals specifically designed for the American palate with added vitamins, minerals, and proteins to supplement an unbalanced diet. We also took ethnic tastes into consideration, so that recipients could enjoy foods appropriate to their culture.
